Steel E4330

4330 Mod - A646 Grade 5

Alloy E4330 MOD VAR is a low-alloy steel, enriched with vanadium, offering an excellent combination of strength and ductility (>10%). Produced through vacuum arc remelting (VAR), this alloy is specifically designed for aerospace applications due to its high mechanical properties obtained after heat treatment. Its typical applications include landing gear, transmission shafts, and gears, where impact resistance (269 HB) and wear resistance are required.

How E4330 is used in aerospace

The practical applications of this steel in aircraft construction.

Axles

The E4330 alloy is used in the manufacturing of critical components like axles. These axles support and transmit loads between the wheels and the aircraft structure in the landing gear.

Transmission Shafts

The E4330 alloy, with its excellent mechanical properties and wear resistance, ensures strong performance while limiting deformation and wear caused by rotational forces when transmitting power from the engine to the propellers.

Gears

Thanks to its tensile strength and hardness, the E4330 alloy ensures the reliable operation of gears within the aircraft’s mechanical systems, such as flaps or control surfaces.
